Spring Fling

Spring has sprung, and in inspiring fashion! After the huge blizzard we had in the Northeast U.S. this winter, I am more relieved than ever to hear the birds chirping in the newly budding trees. It seems the talented artists of the CGGE have been inspired, too. Enjoy these lovely flora and fauna pieces!

Happy New Year!

It's that time again-- time for New Year's resolutions. It seems as though everyone I know makes the same resolutions year in and year out. Here are the top 5 from about.com. Did yours make the list?

1. Spend more time with family and friends.
2. Fit in fitness.
3. Tame the bulge.
4. Quit smoking.
5. Enjoy life more.

I'll be the first to admit that I am guilty of constantly sweating the small stuff. While you can usually find me volunteering on every committee known to man, it's difficult to maintain a semblance of balance between everyone else and myself. So this year I'm trying to take a more zen approach to life. That's not to be confused with minimalism-- I'll still more than likely lend a helping hand to anyone who asks, whether I like it or not. I will just try not to let it stress me out. There is a zen proverb that expresses my intentions beautifully:
Student says, " I am very discouraged. What should I do?" Master says, "Encourage others."

Whatever your New Year's resolutions are, I hope you are able pursue them with a positive attitude.

Here are some lovely pieces from CGGE members that help put me into a zen state of mind. I've chosen them because, to my eye, they seem Asian-inspired, whether it be a Japanese koi fish or the beautiful colors of a kimono. I hope you enjoy them. Happy New Year!

The start of a new season

This is my absolute favorite time of year with the crisp fall air, colorful leaf displays, the pumpkins ready to be picked off the vine, shopping for new winter clothes and getting the Halloween costumes planned out with the kids. What do you enjoy about autumn?
Here are some of my picks from the Creative Glass Guild of Etsy that really fit into this time of year when summer, though officially over, still tries to linger, and fall is quickly taking over. Enjoy!

Helixelemental's pumpkin and green floral dangles. These earrings are like my garden at the moment with the colors of summer and fall rolled into one. Perfect for this time of year!

Inferno Glass Bead's "reigning purple" handmade lamp work beads. Purple is a hot color this year! These beads would be perfect with the new top I just bought.

JS Glass Art's Halloween Candle Holder/Candy Dish. Just right for a pretty candle or to fill with some yummy Halloween candy!

Kerichrystian's "I love orange". Wonderful color and style to this bracelet of seed beads and shells.

Home Fried Bead's "Booooo". Halloween Mummy Focal Bead. This is just the cutest bead. I may just scoop it up myself!

Lawatha's "Leafy Tree". Fused glass pendant. The magestic tree in autumn splendor. Just beautiful.

Autumn Is My Favourite Season

I have always loved Autumn/Fall. My Brother would tell you it is because my Birthday falls in October but don’t believe a word of it. It is because the world becomes a rich pallet of my favourite colours; rich russets and burnt oranges. I enjoy the crisp air and the dramatic light over the landscape on my early morning walks. As a child I delighted in shuffling through the rustling fallen leaves. Not to mention the harvest festival and Halloween parties that add a little fun and celebration too as the longer winter nights draw in.

Here are a few of my favourite autumn pieces from CGGE members
